Description: The Torremillanos estate has been in the Lopez family since 1975, but under the direction of son Ricardo, they began to transition to biodynamics in the early aughts, and were the first in the region to receive Demeter certification in 2015. A reasonably "large" natural producer (200 ha under vine), their portfolio encompasses a variety of both traditionally made and more experimental bottlings. The Montecastrillo straddles closer to the traditional side, 100% Tempranillo fermented in 80% stainless and 20% French and American oak (produced by their own cooperage!) and aged in barrel for 4 months before release. Ample raspberry, blackberry and plum are framed elegantly with a touch of vanilla and oak spice. A generous red whose quality belies its generous value.
