FAQs
Why is it so expensive and what do you mean by gratuity free?
Parable is proudly gratuity free — meaning our employees do not rely on tips for income and are paid a livable wage. Not only do we pay a living wage — but we also purchase produce and farmed goods at fair wages. Which means, we are paying a premium for better quality goods that are equitable and ethical.
All prices for our beverage, food, and pastry offerings are inclusive of this method!
What do you mean by “pay what you can”?
We are a cafe that believes in mutual aid — the idea and practice that allows for a community to support one another through action, cooperation, solidarity, and trust.
We believe what we create within Parable should be accessible to everyone in our community. If you are without the means, or funds for coffee today, please ask for us to put your coffee on our community card. If you have the means to support this practice, we encourage you to ask about contributing to our community card.
When do you sell out of pastries?
Pastries are prepared and baked between 7am - 8am. Once made, they sell throughout the day — we cannot provide an exact sellout time. We suggest if you want a full selection of pasties, you come around opening time (7am) — especially on weekends.
How does the food program work?
Currently, all of our food offerings are dine-in only, no exceptions. Just like how coffee/pastry operate in the daytime, you order at the bar, and seating is still first come, first served, no reservations. At this time, we are unable to make modifications or substitutions to our menu offerings.
Why are laptops not allowed after 6pm?
This is a new policy in our cafe! As we get busier and want to be able to seat everyone dining in, we request that you follow this rule. We especially want to be respectful of artists that come in our space and perform, without their audience being a screen-filled crowd.
I can’t find a place to sit, what do I do?
As it is open seating, we cannot guarantee seats. There is lots of standing room you are welcome to, as long as it’s not a hindrance to our employees serving you. Kindly ask to share a table if there are no other seats! On busy nights, like Jazz Night on Sundays, we recommend you come early and stay late!
Where do I park?
We offer 1-hour parking validation for the Columbus Commons Main Garage (55 E. Rich St.), it is a short walk through the Commons to get to our cafe! Please bring your ticket in with you and ask a barista/bartender for a validation ticket.
Street parking is always an option, but keep an eye out for time restrictions, special events, and payment!
I want to plan an event at Parable, how do I do that?
Please head over to our events form and tell us a little bit about what you're planning! Someone will reach out to you shortly to discuss more information. (Please do not DM us to plan your event)
Do you allow outside food into the cafe?
Because we prepare our own food in-house, Ohio Law does not permit bringing in food and liquor from other restaurants.
