Description: Here's a fun little rarity from the Colline Novaresi area of Alto Piemonte. 100% Vespolina, a neglected native varietal that is related to the much more well known Nebbiolo. Typically used as a blending grape, here it is the star of the show. Hailing from less than 1 ha of organic vines on clay, limestone and gravel, it sits on skins for 10 days in stainless before malo, and spends 6 months in used barrels before bottling (lightly filtered, small amount of SO2). The nose is abundant with crunchy red and purple fruit, lots of flowers, white pepper, baked clay, and spice. Lifted acidity and bright tannins with plenty of juicy berry flavors pop on the palate and practically beg for food. A real wildcard wine that will turn the heads of even the most esoteric of wine dorks.
